Why use Horus X blue light blocking glasses?

Horus X blue light blocking glasses help reduce eye strain from screens, improve visual comfort and limit the impact of artificial light (screens, LED lights) on sleep.

I read on the internet that it was just marketing without any scientific basis?

Some websites are crying foul about blue light. They're not entirely wrong, as many brands of glasses have limited and ineffective filtration, and this can sometimes even be the case with glasses from opticians. It's all the more complicated to navigate this because there isn't necessarily an official protection rating like there is for UV rays, but we are trying, at our level, to change things at the regulatory level.

This is also why we created Horus X in 2018, with filtrations that are now patented and have proven themselves to more than 500,000 customers worldwide.

The scientific literature is rich in evidence demonstrating the impacts of artificial light, both in the short term (on sleep, for example) and potentially in the long term (we don't yet have the necessary perspective to fully understand all the effects). Some scientists even draw parallels between the effects of LED light and the asbestos crisis at the end of the 20th century, as in this excellent podcast (French subtitles available) by neuroscientist Andrew Huberman and Dr. Glen Jeffery.

Do Horus X blue light blocking glasses help reduce the effects of blue light?

Yes. Horus X lenses filter a targeted portion of harmful blue light, responsible for eye strain, headaches, and sleep disturbances, depending on the type of lenses used (with a particular focus between 380nm and 450nm).

Do the glasses alter the colors on the screen?

Differences between our lenses

  • ⚪️ Ghost lenses (clear): natural color rendering, "no filter" feel
  • 🟠 Plasma lenses (amber): orange tint like sunset, moderately to strongly alters colors.
  • 🟡 Ultra Esport lenses (light amber): designed for screen use and competition, subtle color modification (good compromise between performance and color accuracy)
  • 🔴 Recovery lenses: red tint, strongly alters colors; main objective = to protect sleep (not to optimize screen display)
  • ⚫️ Solar lenses: darken the environment while maintaining natural and “optimized” colors (more comfort and contrast outdoors)

Adaptation (important)

We worked on the colorimetry so that the brain adapts quickly to the hue. Generally, you get used to it in a few minutes.

Where are Horus X glasses made?

Our glasses are manufactured in workshops and factories located between China and Taiwan. These workshops adhere to strict quality standards, are regularly audited, and comply with recognized international standards (including the SA8000 standard ), guaranteeing humane and ethical manufacturing practices. These countries are recognized in the industry as being at the forefront of optical technologies.

What materials are Horus X glasses made of?

Each model is different, but the main materials used in the manufacture of our glasses are high-end Japanese polycarbonate, G820 (a bio-material made from 61% castor oil), stainless steel, and metal alloys. For more details, please refer to each product description.

How to choose between the different lenses and models?

The choice depends on how you intend to use your glasses (work, gaming, outdoor use, etc.). In summary:

  • The choice of model is mainly a matter of aesthetics (gaming, casual, or pro) and comfort (gaming glasses are designed to be more covering and immersive, and to adapt to wearing a headset, while classic blue light blocking glasses are more suited to a professional setting).
  • The choice of lens is mainly linked to the intensity of use (short or long exposure), the context (professional or not), and the time of use (evening or daytime).

You can find a summary of our technologies here . If you still have questions or need help making your choice, you can answer a quick questionnaire or contact us at hello@horus-x.com

What are the dimensions of the glasses?

Each model is only available in one size, but all our models have different dimensions. You can find the dimensions of each model on its respective product page by scrolling down. A good tip if you already own a pair of sunglasses, for example, is to check the dimensions on your temples to try and find a similar size with one of our models. If you can't find the right size, feel free to contact us at hello@horus-x.com

What is the level of blue light filtration of Horus X lenses?

The blue light filtration rate depends on the technology. You can find a summary of our technologies and their filtration rates here . The filtration rate of Horus X glasses is generally much higher than market standards and those of opticians.

  • Plasma (Gaming) : Blue light filtration 380–400 nm = 100% , 380–450 nm = 86%
  • Ghost (Gaming + Office) : 380–400 nm = 100% , 380–450 nm = 61%
  • Ultra Esport (Gaming + Esport) : 380–400 nm = 100% , 380–450 nm = 77%
  • Outdoor Digital (Solar + Blue Light) : 380–400 nm = 100% , 380–450 nm = 96%

Use and maintenance

Can I wear blue light blocking glasses if I don't have any vision problems?

Yes, absolutely, it's even recommended. Blue light blocking glasses are perfectly suited to people without vision problems and are used preventively to improve visual comfort during prolonged exposure to screens.

How do I clean my Horus X glasses?

You can simply use the microfiber cloth that came with your glasses. Occasionally, it's recommended to clean the lenses with dish soap and warm water.

Avoid alcohol, window cleaners or paper towels, which can damage the glasses, just like your t-shirt (let's be honest, we've all done it!)

Can I wear my Horus X glasses all day?

It's possible, but not necessarily recommended.

Blocking artificial light is generally a good idea, with particular attention to key times of the day: during the day as soon as exposure is prolonged, as soon as a situation of discomfort (stinging of the eyes for example) is felt, and before bedtime to limit the impact on melatonin and sleep).

A quick note: exposure to natural sunlight is recommended, especially in the morning to calibrate our circadian rhythm (since our glasses block blue light, it's best not to wear them outdoors at this time of day). However, be mindful of UV rays, which should be avoided when the UV index is above 3 or 4.
