New interview from our series with Thomas Guedj alias @thefishouhs on Instagram and TheFishou on Youtube. Like every week, we will be asking our gamer friends questions about their experiences, their challenges and their advice for success in gaming.
Can you present in a few sentences?
I'm Thomas Guedj, my nickname is thefishou, I'm 31 years old and I'm above all a lover of card games, and I've been trying to share my passion on Youtube and Twitch for about 5 years. I worked for two card game web tv, GamersOrigin and Arma, and I am now freelance.
When did you start to have a passion for gaming and especially card games?
It came with age and after hours and hours of playing, that's when it became a real passion and I knew it would be part of me, of my personality. got started on social networks, simply because I saw people sharing their passion for video games and I thought it was a real opportunity. So I thought about what I could do and I thought why not me... and that's how it all started.
Why did it become a passion? What prompted you to get into this sector and especially on Youtube?
This kind of game has always been a passion but it's true that with Hearthstone I had a huge crush. I started playing right out of the game and quickly turned professional, had the chance to participate in tournaments all over the world and over time I slowly made the transition to Youtube, streaming, and more entertainment and less tournaments (although I still love doing them now). What pushed me to get started on Twitch is above all the fact that I wanted to share my passion. At first I didn't live from it, at least the first two years, I had another job on the side and then with time and motivation I managed to make it my job, especially Youtube to tell the truth.
What makes a good gamer?
A good gamer in the broad sense, hard to say, but a good card player is above all the control of his emotions, the fact of managing the tilt, knowing how to stop at the right moment. We may be technically the best in the world, if we are not in control of our emotions, we will never be able to demonstrate it.
Can you explain what you do exactly and what are your references at the moment?
On Youtube, I present a different deck every day, and I explain how to play it. I think the little extra of my videos is that I'm completely crazy, so it's kind of funny, but at the same time I try to be an educator. And on Twitch, the content is essentially the same, even if unlike Youtube I also play Poker and sometimes other games than Hearthstone. French humor like strangers, Kamelott.
If I tell you, blue light?
I say ouch, with my job I'm constantly in front of the screens and my sight is really expensive, I have to change my glasses every 2 years. Afterwards, I have already talked about it with my community on Twitch and many people are talking about it.
As an influencer, do you have any advice for getting started?
The very foundation of this work is passion, you shouldn't do this to become someone famous or pseudo famous, or even for the money, because already in the first years you don't earn anything and above all it's an everyday job, there are no weekends so if you don't get up in the morning with the desire to shoot videos and play you can already stop.
How do you see the gaming market for the next few years?
It is a sector that is evolving really well, large structures like GamersOrigin in France for example allow a significant influence of video games and esports in France and for the general public. More and more companies from other sectors are interested in video games and I think that will continue.
