Anti-reflective lenses are a subject we are particularly fond of at Horus X: all of our lenses benefit from this treatment, which considerably increases visual comfort.
However, an anti-reflective lens requires special attention and care to avoid getting scratched or cracked. We'll explain why, and most importantly, how to preserve your anti-reflective lenses.
Anti-reflective treatment: what you need to know
Anti-reflective glasses: for comfort and fighting against visual fatigue

Anti-reflective treatment on sunglasses or prescription glasses is a real game changer for your visual comfort: improved vision, extended lifespan for your lenses, fewer reflections in front of a screen for both you and others (and people can see your eyes better, too, which is nicer).
⭐️ Significant bonus: wearing glasses with an anti-reflective treatment helps reduce glare, especially if you wear glasses for night driving. Pretty good for avoiding hitting a lamppost.
For all these reasons, we recommend opting for a quality anti-reflective treatment for your prescription lenses, as well as your sunglasses and blue light blocking glasses.
Why quality? Because the benefits we mentioned just above are only valid if the anti-reflective treatment is properly applied uniformly across the entire surface of your lenses. Otherwise, it won't do you much good.
Anti-reflective treatments: obvious advantages, but also weaknesses
Obviously, anti-reflective lenses are like Pokémon: they have their strengths but also their weaknesses, it's up to you to see what the right choice will be for you. And among the disadvantages of anti-reflective treatment, here are the most frequent ones:
-
🖐️ Smudges are more visible than on standard lenses
-
🧽 These lenses require greater care, especially when you clean them
-
⚠️ Anti-reflective treatment is a surface treatment (based on silver halide) which, even if it is resistant, can be damaged: this is when the famous cracks appear on your lenses
These cracks have some very common causes:
-
🦔 Use of cleaning products that are too abrasive or alcohol-based
-
🌵 Dry cleaning without rinsing the lenses beforehand to remove dirt
-
👕 Use of an unsuitable cloth, one that is too rough, or a piece of clothing...
-
🔥 Prolonged exposure to heat
- ♨️ Washing with water that is too hot
All these bad habits will quickly risk damaging your anti-reflective treatment.
Can you repair cracked anti-reflective coating?
Can a cracked anti-reflective lens be repaired? We won't prolong the suspense any longer: the answer is no.

If your anti-reflective lenses are scratched or cracked, be aware that it is irreversible. They cannot be repaired because the treatment cannot be applied again. This means you will have to replace your lenses: you see why we tell you to take care of them?
However, you can take preventative action to avoid this happening: count on us to give you all the expert tips and advice to pamper your anti-reflective lenses!
To avoid cracked lenses, opt for quality lenses
As you might guess, it's the foundation. It's better to choose good anti-reflective lenses from the start so you don't have to change them every four days.
What is a good anti-reflective coating?
The anti-reflective (or AR) treatment is only effective if it is applied correctly, we already told you that. You can ask for a multi-layer treatment rather than a single-layer for better protection.
Don't hesitate to ask your optician what type of treatment is used, if it has one or more protective layers (hydrophobic, oleophobic, anti-scratch, or antistatic).
The Horus X quality: anti-reflective lenses you can count on
Taking care of your eyes is our job: at Horus X, we design blue light blocking glasses that protect you against the harmful wavelengths of artificial blue light, to preserve your peepers and prevent eye fatigue from screens. An appreciable bonus: they add +10 to all your charisma rolls, yes indeed.
We have therefore developed no less than five different lenses to meet all needs. Their common point? A superior quality anti-reflective treatment to ensure your visual comfort in all circumstances.

Our collection of Nomad screen glasses with transparent Ghost lenses protects you at work and in your daily life.
Gamers can turn to our Gaming collection, which, in addition to our transparent lenses, offers tinted Plasma and Plasma Pro lenses for the best filtration on the market.
We haven't forgotten our dear little ones, who also spend time in front of screens: our kids collection is dedicated to them!
Finally, to get your dose of vitamin D, we also have Sunglasses, with standard or polarized lens options to protect you from UV rays.
Care tips to preserve your anti-reflective lenses
Well, now that you've made the right choice and opted for quality anti-reflective lenses, you need to take care of them to avoid scratching them.
A few simple tips to avoid breakage (pardon, cracking):
-
🧴 If you wish, invest in cleaning products, wipes, or sprays specially designed for the care of anti-reflective lenses. Otherwise, a neutral dish soap can do the trick
-
💧 Don't forget to always moisten your lenses before a thorough cleaning
-
🤧 Stop using a tissue or your sleeve to clean your glasses; they are far too rough and will scratch your lenses. To clean your glasses, there is only one solution: the microfiber cloth.
-
🧼 Clean your cloth regularly: if it's dirty, your lenses will be too
-
📦 Use a carrying case to protect your lenses when you are not using them or if you have to take them with you
-
🚫 And of course, don't sit on your glasses, don't leave them in the sun for too long, avoid stepping on them or leaving them in the blender. It's safer.
And because we are truly thorough at Horus X, we have prepared a complete guide to explain how to properly clean your anti-reflective lenses: you just have to read it to never again find yourself facing cracked lenses!
A final word: cracked anti-reflective coating, what to do?
-
Anti-reflective treatment for prescription glasses, sunglasses, or even blue light blocking glasses is a must for improving your visual comfort. Be careful, however, about the quality of the treatment used.
-
Big problem: a cracked or scratched anti-reflective lens cannot be repaired: every time this happens to you, head to the optician to ask for brand new lenses!
-
Prevention is better than cure: to take care of your pairs of anti-reflective glasses, don't compromise on quality and apply our care advice to keep your lenses for longer (it's good for your wallet and for the planet!).
