Comparison: the best sit-stand desks for every budget
A sit-stand desk, also known as a standing desk or height-adjustable desk, is a desk that allows you to easily switch between sitting and standing positions, and vice versa. Its adjustable height offers several working positions, and it is clearly a game-changer if you want to adopt a better working posture at your screen, whether for work or just for chilling.
If you want to trade your traditional desk for a height-adjustable one, we unveil our comparison and buying guide for the best sit-stand desks currently available.
Which sit-stand desk to choose: comparison table, from €200 to €600
We have selected professional-grade equipment for our list. This means most of the desks are DIY, which stands for "do it yourself." The manufacturer offers several customization options; it's up to you to choose the ones you want.
This option notably allows you to buy a desk without a desktop to save a significant amount of money (provided you already have one at home; otherwise, it works less well).
One last detail: we don't get a single cent for the links posted in our article. We selected these desks because they are great, not to make money from them!
Right, let's get down to business: our top 5!

We also appreciate the large choice of colors: Palpatine has an all-black model on his eponymous star station, and our editor is a fan of the gray-beige-taupe combination, which reminds him that there is a creature in the animal kingdom even more nearsighted than he is.

How to choose your height-adjustable desk?
Well, we started straight with our top list, but let's add a short guide to help you choose your ergonomic desk wisely.
Here are some criteria to take into account:
- 🎛️ The type of adjustable desk: manual or electric? There are several models of sit-stand desks: manual desks, which work with a crank to adjust their height, or electric desks. Personally, we prefer the electric versions, but if your banker has just knocked on your door equipped with a pitchfork and a torch, a manual version remains ergonomic and allows for savings. They are, however, rarer and harder to find.
- ↕️ The different height levels available and the precision of adjustment: Remember to check the heights available according to your height. If several people are using the desk, you may need finer adjustment settings so that everyone can use it comfortably. Similarly, a desk with memory settings for your most-used positions can be a plus.
- 🏋️ The maximum weight capacity: this is a very important criterion, especially if you have two screens, want to install a printer, need a lot of equipment within reach, or keep elephants. Some desks support very little load, so we advise you to check this criterion as a priority.
- 📏 The size of the desk, its shape (L-shaped or not): depending on the space you have available, you won't necessarily choose the same desk. Take the time to measure the room and evaluate the space, taking into account your movements, especially if you use a desk chair or a stability ball when sitting. Also, pay attention to the weight of the desk if you want to be able to move it easily in your workspace. Finally, choose a desk with a desktop large enough if you need space to work.
- 👌 The ease of assembly and use: you can choose from the best sit-stand desks on the market, but if you cannot assemble it easily or use it on a daily basis, that's not great.
- 👍 The little extras that can make a difference: does the chosen model have integrated USB ports, enough storage space, an alarm to remind you to change posture, or child safety? Is the motor noisy, fast, or slower? You can also find practical features like anti-collision technology when changing positions, or choose a connected electric sit-stand desk if that aspect is important to you.
💡 Good to know: desktop converters can be an alternative to a traditional sit-stand desk. These are ergonomic supports with adjustable height that sit directly on your work surface.
A few tips for using an electric desk properly

Regularly alternate between sitting and standing positions
You probably already know, a height-adjustable desk has a bunch of significant benefits for your health and well-being:
- 🤕 Avoids static positioning and reduces chronic pain: as we explained in our complete guide to sitting properly at your desk, not staying static at your desk is the foundation of ergonomics.
- 👁️ Fights against eye strain: being able to adjust the height of your desk also means adjusting the height of your screen to place it at eye level (preferably between 50 and 70 cm away). In doing so, you avoid tension in your neck but also avoid straining your little peepers, ultimately improving your visual comfort.
- 🩸 Improves blood circulation: changing positions, and specifically being in a standing position, improves venous return. You will be less prone to circulation problems than by sitting all day.
- 🧠 Increases concentration capacity: it's proven, working standing up helps you be more dynamic, more focused, more productive, and even more creative. Overall, changing positions frequently allows you to stay alert and even improves your mood. So, to you, who are falling asleep at your desk, hop hop, wake up and stand up!
But just because you have invested in a good standing desk doesn't mean you should only work standing up! Even if the standing posture has many advantages for boosting your performance, it is really the act of regularly switching from sitting to standing, and vice versa, that makes ergonomic desks worthwhile.
Indeed, while spending too much time sitting isn't good for your posture or your back, working standing up all the time isn't the solution either! Research shows that the ideal approach is to alternate between sitting and standing regularly: ideally, for every 1 to 2 hours sitting, you should spend 1 hour standing.
To take it a step further, don't hesitate to try walking pads to combat fatigue and improve blood circulation.
Invest in a quality chair
If you want to optimize your comfort at work or at home, take the time to choose an ergonomic office chair to take care of your posture and ensure you're at the right height while sitting. You can also try ergonomic exercise balls specially designed for sitting properly at your desk.
We advise against gaming chairs, which offer mediocre value for money. Now, a truly durable and comfortable ergonomic chair costs an arm and a leg. Consider buying second-hand, which can save you a fortune, allowing you to give your backside the seat it deserves without breaking the bank. Remember, bankers have pitchforks and torches and probably worse to protect their money; it's dangerous.
💡 Good to know: the right height for a desk is the one that allows for the most ergonomic position possible! Whether you are sitting or standing, your elbows should form a 90-degree angle, your head aligned with your screen, and your back straight for optimal posture.
Pay attention to your wrists

Let's take a closer look at your wrists: if you don't want to end up with carpal tunnel syndrome, you need to watch your positioning. Ideally, when standing, your wrists should be at a slightly more inclined angle than when you are sitting, where you want them to be straighter.
If you spend time on your screen, consider an ergonomic mouse, which has saved many a carpal tunnel. You can find our selection of the best ergonomic mice right here.
Standing desk + anti-blue light glasses: the winning combo

Adopting a good working (or gaming) posture is good for your health, but don't forget about your precious eyes!
Spending hours working on a screen means exposing yourself to the dangers of blue light, which is considered the main source of visual fatigue, can disrupt your sleep, and may even be a factor in the development of age-related macular degeneration.
To protect you, we have developed anti-blue light glasses for work and for gaming, with nothing less than the best filtration on the market. And you can tell your banker to put down their pitchfork: our glasses are affordable for every budget, even those that have just invested in an ergonomic desk.
Don't forget to take regular breaks
It's basic advice, but we'll remind you anyway: to refresh your body and mind, and also to preserve your precious eyes, remember to take regular breaks, ideally outdoors! It's good for everything: your mood, productivity, and even your circadian rhythm.
Final word: the best standing desk
- The benefits of a standing desk compared to a standard desk are numerous: it reduces chronic pain, improves blood circulation, decreases sedentary behavior, and even increases concentration through regular posture changes!
- At the office or at home, you shouldn't cut corners on your comfort. To fully enjoy the benefits of your height-adjustable desk, remember to alternate regularly between sitting and standing, equip yourself with an ergonomic chair, adjust the height of your screen, and opt for anti-blue light glasses.
- To choose the perfect standing desk for you, we recommend looking into essential criteria: manual or electric operation, number of levels and precision of settings, maximum weight capacity, size and shape of the tabletop. We suggest opting for a quality standing desk so you can enjoy it for longer.
- Which standing desk should you choose? Many brands offer standing desks: there is something for every taste and every budget. Among our favorites: the Fezibo Basic, the E7 Advanced from Flexispot, and the KQUEO Dynamic.
