Tired of under-eye bags and dark circles? Want to put an end to eye irritation so you stop looking like an albino rabbit?

Did you know that cornflower water can be a very effective remedy?

This pretty flower possesses many medicinal properties, recognized for millennia, which are very useful for soothing tired or irritated eyes.

So, what are its benefits, and how do you use it? We tell you everything about this floral water.

What is cornflower water?

Cornflower water is a floral water extracted from the cornflower, a wild flower that grows in wheat fields. It is obtained after the distillation of dried flowers.

Even if the technique is the same as that used to obtain essential oil, it is not possible to obtain one from the cornflower. We therefore refer to it as cornflower floral water or hydrosol, which is rich in active plant molecules.

As it is less concentrated than essential oils, it can be used more easily and is suitable for all skin types, even sensitive skin.

Cultivated since ancient times for its soothing and decongesting virtues, the cornflower is the ultimate natural solution for taking care of your beautiful eyes.

It is particularly recommended for taking care of the eye contour area.

Its decongesting action helps fight the appearance of dark circles, reduces bags under the eyes, and restores a fresh, rested look.

It is also very effective for soothing itchy eyes in cases of eye strain caused by screens (another good option in this case is to opt for our beautiful anti-blue light glasses: check them out here!).

😍 Cornflower hydrosol soothes irritated and swollen eyes

Thanks to its soothing properties, it is ideal for relaxing red and tired eyes.

It also helps to decongest swollen eyes by facilitating blood flow.

It is very effective at calming inflammation and redness.

With its anti-inflammatory properties and its action on blood circulation, it is very useful for skin prone to redness, as it helps regenerate the epidermis.

Its gentleness can also be used to soothe skin after sunburn, making cornflower water the perfect after-sun treatment.

Finally, it can be a powerful weapon against acne. Indeed, it is an excellent astringent with sebum-regulating properties, meaning it is capable of limiting excess sebum, the primary culprit for acne and other unwelcome breakouts.

Cornflower water is very often used as a makeup remover, and that is no coincidence!

The gentleness of cornflower hydrosol helps refresh, tighten pores, brighten the complexion, smooth skin texture, tone the skin tissue, and remove all imperfections and impurities from the face.

Nothing better for cleaning the skin deeply while relaxing it.

For your hair

🧴 Cornflower water to purify the scalp

Cornflower can be used as a vitalizing and toning treatment for hair.

It is often present in masks and treatments to invigorate the hair fiber or can be sprayed directly onto the roots.

👱 Cornflower water to neutralize yellow tones in hair

Its blue pigment is highly sought after because it helps prevent the appearance of yellow highlights in gray, white, or platinum blonde hair. You can thus find it in many shampoos.

How to use and choose cornflower water

Due to its gentleness and virtues, cornflower water can be used on all skin types, even the most fragile, and even on babies. Pregnant women can also use it without any contraindications.

It is one of the rare floral waters that can be used on the eyes since it presents no risk in case of contact with them (unless there is an allergy, of course).

You can apply it directly to swollen, tired, or irritated eyes and eyelids by soaking cotton pads or compresses and letting them sit for a few minutes. It can also be used directly as an eye makeup remover or sprayed on the face and neck.

Be careful, however, not to choose just any kind!

Which cornflower water to choose?

The best thing is to get 100% pure water, with no other ingredients in its composition, certified organic and natural, in order to avoid pesticides and other toxic agents harmful to health.

To avoid mistakes, choose a product clearly labeled "centaurea cyanus" (a name dedicated to the centaur Chiron, who reportedly used it to treat himself from an arrow wound, although we still recommend a doctor in case of an archery accident).

Also, make sure to choose an opaque blue bottle (the color of the flower) to protect the product from light. Cornflower water tolerates it very poorly and risks losing its properties if kept in a clear glass bottle.

One last piece of advice: check the distillation date because cornflower hydrosol only retains its properties for one year.

Where to buy it?

You can easily find it in pharmacies, parapharmacies, organic shops, some supermarkets, or online on specialized sites.

How to store it?

After opening, the product must be used fairly quickly to retain all its active ingredients (within 4 to 6 months maximum).

You can store it well-sealed in its original bottle, ideally in a cool place (in the fridge) or at room temperature, but most importantly away from light.

Final word: cornflower water for the eyes

It’s hard to imagine all the benefits a tiny flower can contain, but it’s true!

In the form of floral water, cornflower is an excellent ally for soothing tired and sensitive eyes. And not just that!

It turns out to be just as effective for your face and your scalp.

To make the most of its virtues and properties, be sure to choose an organic and natural cornflower floral water and carefully follow the usage and storage instructions.
